At the Kite Beach yesterday evening, the individual competition of the Beach AirBadminton Tournament got off to a flying start under rigorous COVID protocols.
In the Women's Doubles Event, Princess Arenas and Jenalyn Demaculan teamed up to defeat Chamika Wijesinghe/Minoo Osmand on the sandy beach. In the final game of the Men's Doubles, Achyut EP / Simardeen Sirajuddin defeated former winners Dhanesh Narayanan / Dishit Mundangadan.
Players have improved their skills in this new style of the game in the past, as seen by the long rallies and the majority of matches finishing in deciding games.
The Team Competition, which begins at 7 p.m. today and tomorrow, will pit community clubs from India, Nepal, the Philippines, and Sri Lanka against each other.
